Reduce
We strive to reduce finite resources; to reduce waste through more efficient production and recycling; and to reduce the use of hazardous chemicals by shifting to safe alternatives - not just within DSM, but across our value chain with customers, suppliers and end-consumers.?
Food & beverages
In food and beverages our Brewers Clarex? innovation helps brewers reduce waste by improving beer filtration cycle lengths, thus reducing the amount of beer and water lost; while our Pack-Age? solution for naturally ripening cheese not only reduces wastage in the cheese cutting process by up to 10%, it also enables manufacturers to save 0.5 liters of milk for every 1kg of cheese ripened.
Replace
We’re committed to replacing scarce and polluting resources with safe and renewable ones. Increasingly we strive to manufacture our products using bio-based alternatives to traditional fossil-based resources, along with non-toxic?raw materials.
Natural personal care ingredients
DSM House of Naturals is a portfolio of 55 personal care ingredients that are of ‘natural origin’, ‘verified natural’ or ‘certified organic’, and represents more than 60% of the entire DSM Personal Care portfolio. For example, ALPAFLOR? skincare bioactives, and TILAMAR? PDO with N??VISTA?, the first made-in-Europe cosmetic grade of PDO, 100% bio-sourced from non-GMO and palm oil-free feedstocks.?
Bio-based medical grade UHMWPE fiber
For more than 15 years, DSM Biomedical’s Dyneema Purity? fiber portfolio has been at the forefront of innovation as the strongest and most reliable medical-grade UHMWPE fibers in the world. As of 2024, a bio-based certificate will be available?for the full Dyneema Purity? fiber portfolio without compromising on quality or functionality and without the need for re-qualification. Furthermore, Bio-based Dyneema Purity? fibers are certified according to the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification’s globally recognized ISCC Plus, a certification system covering sustainable feedstocks.?

CanolaPRO? is sustainable plant-based protein that can improve a huge range of non-GMO vegetarian and vegan products including meat analogues, plant-based dairy, shakes, energy bars, cereals and baked goods.

Replacing fish with Veramaris? algal oil
Veramaris? algal oil has a high concentration of the key fatty acids needed to feed farmed salmon and maintain their health. Feeding salmon one metric tonne of Veramaris would leave 60 tonnes of wild-caught fish where they belong, in the ocean.
